Canadian cinema in this catalog runs on two tracks that barely acknowledge each other. There is the anglophone one — tax-shelter horror in the late seventies that produced David Cronenberg and a body-horror grammar the rest of the world borrowed — and there is Québec, which has always behaved like a small European film culture that happens to be in North America. Both are here, and the second is the one that keeps winning things.
