First Light is a 2010 BBC docudrama directed by Matthew Whitman that adapts Geoffrey Wellum's 2002 memoir First Light: The Story of the Boy Who Became a Man in the War-Torn Skies Above Britain. Premiered as part of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the film follows eighteen-year-old Wellum (played by Sam Heughan) who joins 92 Squadron of the RAF in May 1940 and pilots a Spitfire.
